Note: This page is my personal website and does not necessarily reflect the opinion or position of IEEE.

My home is Northern Virginia Section. I have served the Section as a Secretary, Treasurer, Chair-Elect and Chair. Northern Virginia and Washington Sections conduct many joint activities and I was able to extend the reach and depth of the programs. I believe that my experiences at the local level provided me with the needed foundation for Region Director role.

I gratefully acknowledge the excellent co-operation of my fellow volunteers in all these accomplishments.

I invigorated IEEE volunteer training beyond the National Capital Area by conducting workshops in Johnstown, PA, Youngstown, OH, Cleveland, OH with a scheduled event for Philadelphia, PA. I sincerely believe that such training is essential to building a lasting leadership structure at the local level.

As the IEEE-USA Coordinator for Region 2, I improved the dissemination of IEEE-USA programs and services to sections and members.

I took the initiative in founding the IEEE Nanotechnology Council Chapter in the National Capital Area. As the borders between formal disciplines vanish, our members need more exposure to technical insights that cross traditional boundaries.

I served on the Joint Scanner Committee that reviewed the costs and benefits of the printed Newsletter versus the electronic version. The conclusions of the Committee that the print Scanner should continue and be supplemented with an electronic version were implemented. I had the privilege of working with Ron Aasen, Doug Holly and Rex Klopfenstein on this task. Please visit www.ieee.org/escanner to see if such a template can be replicated in your Section.

I introduced the IEEE virtual community for the National Capital Area which I believe was the fist such one at a local level. This community serves as a forum for online discussions, as a repository for AdCom meeting minutes and to publicize the local events. www.ieeecommunities.org/nca

I guided the IEEE Student Branch at George Mason University in holding its first annual Ethics Awareness Conference modeled after the Regional Student Activities Conferences. This event now has become an annual feature and includes teams across National Capital Area.

I continued the pace of increased involvement of the Section in pre-college activities with one additional High School Club and support for local FIRST Robotics teams. I also worked with Northern Virginia Technology Council in developing and conducting a Nanotechnology Education Seminar for the Middle and High School teachers.

I revived the dormant Electron Devices Society Chapter and introduced premier events such as the series of talks on Nanotechnology.
